Description

This wine is a varietal blend of Cabernet, Zinfandel and Syrah

Cabernet brings its signature blackcurrant flavours, ample acid and tannin. Zinfandel adds jammy berries, with Syrah contributing plum and pepper. Together they make a bold wine with abundant berry flavours and rich tannins.

During this 6-month steep, the juice absorbs flavours and tannin from the whisky oak, adding roundness to the body, elevating tannin, and infusing it with nuanced sweet spice, brown sugar and vanilla character.

These whisky-influenced sweet notes round out a bold wine rich with flavours of blackcurrant, jammy wildberry and plum, underlaid with mocha, spice, and smoky toasted notes

THE OAK: In a Winexpert first- the juice for this limited release was pre-oaked in-house, steeping for several months with whisky oak chips specially sourced from the Wayne Gretzky Estates Winery and Distillery located in Niagara On The Lake, Ontario. The oak is from barrels used in the distillery’s whisky production!

Infusion is even more special with the Whisky Oak coming from the Wayne Gretzky Estates Winery and Distillery. Wayne Gretzky is the best hockey player to ever play. He retired more than 20 years ago and still owns or shares more than 60 NHL records. He also managed Team Canada to Gold at the 2002 Olympics. Our customer demographic all know who Gretzky is! The Wayne Gretzky Estates Winery and Distillery is owned by Andrew Peller Limited which is the parent company of Global Vinters (GVI). GVI of course makes both our VineCo and Winexpert wines. This connection is what gives us access to the Whisky Oak for this unique Limited Release! Andrew Peller Limited also owns Peller Estates, Copper Moon, Black Hills Estates, Red Rooster, Trius and many other well known Canadian brands. Wine Sense had a staff training trip to Niagara On the Lake in 2018 where we toured Wayne Gretzky Estates, Peller Estates and Trius Winery.
