Market Insights

Bourbon Barrel Wines are trending with some of the world’s biggest wineries offering Bourbon Oaked wines (Mondavi, Fetzer, Jacob’s Creek and more). Using Bourbon oak adds richness, spice and vanilla notes to the respective wines- creating a must-try wine experience. Bourbon Barrel and Whisky Barrel wines are popular with our customers based on the sales of past limited release options- most recently with the Winexpert PR Infusion. Our Bourbon Barrel Fumé is a Wine Sense Exclusive created, developed and blind tasted by Wine Sense Managers! (with the blessings of GVI). Fumé is not new to us- the Winexpert Limited Edition program had a Fumé Blanc in the LE18 release. Fumé Blanc was originally created by famed California winemaker Robert Mondavi in the 1960's. Sauvignon Blanc did not have a great reputation at the time and Mondavi wanted to differentiate his Sauvignon Blanc from by coining the name "Fumé Blanc". The Fumé name is based on the smoke like "mist" that forms in the famed vineyards of the Pouilly Fumé wine region in France. Although Mondavi did not make the addition of oak a mandatory feature of Fumé Blanc- oak is synonymous with the style. Bourbon wines range from about $14 to $33 per bottle at the liqour store! Ours is only $6.72/bottle made in store and $4.83/bottle made at home!
